I am a graduate of the University of Washington where I received my bachelor’s degree in 1989. In 1993 I graduated from the University of Arizona College of Law. After a brief stint working for the Pima County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, I realized my talents and passions were better served defending people and not prosecuting them. The “obtain a conviction regardless of the individual facts” mentality has never appealed to me and seems counter productive to obtaining a just result. I moved back to Washington and began my criminal defense practice.
Though I have defended people who have been charged with everything ranging from simple theft to serious violent offenses, I have found that representing individuals charged with domestic violence offienses can be the most rewarding. That’s because if I do my job properly, I am not only helping a person avoid a serious criminal conviction, I’m helping him or her to create a framework that will provide stability in their family and personal relationships. Or, at times, I am helping to protect them from an individual bent on doing them serious harm, either by way of continued false allegations or by way of causing serious bodily injury. Regardless of the allegations, defending people charged with domestic violence is never solely just about representing them in court.
